Programmable Version of Network Enabler
The model name NE-4110S, NE-4110A, NE-4120S, NE-4120A and NE-4100T are the standard versions
running serial-to-Ethernet firmware for regular TCP Server, TCP Client and UDP, Real COM operation
modes.
The programmable version of Network Enabler, in general called “P” version. NE-4110S-P, NE-4110A-P,
NE-4120S-P, NE-4120A-P, NE-4100T-P represent programmable version. The Network Enabler SDK
can only work with “P” version of Network Enabler.
However, the standard version of Network Enabler can change to programmable version by using
Firmware Exchange utility. Likewise, programmable version can also change to standard version on your
demand.
Exchanging Firmware to Standard or Programmable Version
In case you need to program the module, there are two approaches.
1. Use firmware exchange utility to update the originally standard serial-to-Ethernet module to
programmable module. The model name in the firmware is automatically updated to “P” version.
You may tell the differences in firmware exchange utility.
Likewise, the “P” version can be change to standard serial-to-Ethernet version.
The feature is suitable for project development, you may use one set of Network Enabler starter kit
for two applications.
2. For product deployment, you may order “P” version of Network Enabler directly from Moxa.
NOTE
If your NE-41xx Network Enabler uses the firmware version 1.4 or less, it may not work with Firmware
Exchange utility.
To remedy this, the BIOS of NE-41xx needs to be updated to version 1.2 or greater version. Please check
the BIOSUpgrade.DOC in /nesdk for more information.
