Automatic or remote data acquisition is possible using NPort 5400

products, which can connect up to 4 serial devices with only one

IP address. By specifying the IP address and TCP port number,

a host computer can access different serial devices over the

Internet. For example, data from NPort 5410’s first serial port can

be obtained by connecting to 192.168.10.2:4001.

Devices that are attached to the NPort 5400 can be shared

between different host computers. For example, ports 1 and 2 on

the NPort can be assigned to Host A’s COM3 and COM4, and ports

3 and 4 can be assigned to Host B’s COM3 and COM4.

Up to 31 RS-485 devices or 9 RS-422 devices can be connected

to each serial port on the NPort 5430 or 5430I. The web console

or Windows utility can be used to configure RS-422 or RS-485

operation for each port, and both 2-wire and 4-wire RS-485 is

supported.
